Inception
stage
Mega projects requires good management skills,
coordination experts and ensuring completion with in scheduled time span, value
and necessary specs.
At inception stages the viability of the project is assessed.
Various questions raised include:-why is
the project needed? ; How can the need be fulfilled? (Refurbishment or
extension existing structure); what benefit are expected after project completion?
; What are the investment option present? Finally, what likely risk related to
the project?
Feasibility
stage
During this stage the key output is establishing the project execution
plan for the selected option. The project objectives are specified as well as
possible options outlined .The most suitable option is selected by value and
risk management criterion
Strategy
stage
This
involves setting up of the project organization, establishing the procurement
strategy and commissioning/occupation issues through identifying project
targets, assessing and managing risks and establishing the project plan
Pre-construction
stage
At pre-construction stage the project brief with the project team are finalized,.
Solution that gives optimum value are identified and agreed .This make helps delivery of detailed design that has sensible cost, time and
quality.
Construction
stage
The target set at pre-construction stage are
followed to the letter by each stakeholder to ensure the safe completion of the development project
Commissioning stage
At
this stage inspection is performed to ensure the engineering installation has
been installed correctly, in a safe manner, and that it performs to the
requirements of the design.
The
project manager ensure that the commissioning of the separate systems is
properly planned and executed, so that the installation as a whole is fully
operational at handover without delay to the schedule. Any fine tuning necessary
after handover is carried out in liaison with the client
Completion,
handover and occupation stage
Handover plan is agreed and scheduled. The
handover plan lay down the criteria for acceptance by the client, provision of
necessary project documentation, and defects liability, commissioning arrangements,
and any instructions as to future occupation. The client is also supposed to
agree and implement the handover method and agree a defect rectification plan if
necessary and transfer of documentation. An initial post-occupancy review may
be undertaken at this stage to highlight any immediate issues for rectification.
Post-completion
review
The
objective of the review is to make a thorough assessment of all elements of the
project and to draw out or feedback, for the benefit of the client, the project
management practice concerned and other team members, any lessons and
conclusions for application to future projects
